GB 33 Acupuncture Point(Xiyangguan) belongs to the Gallbladder Meridian of Foot-Shaoyang,which is commonly used for knee swelling and pain, urgent popliteal contracture, numbness of calf, knee arthritis, paralysis of the lower limbs, etc. puncture 0.5 to 1 cun.
GB 33 Acupuncture Point Location
3 cun above GB 34, lateral to the knee joint, in a depression above the external epicondyle of the femur, between the femur and the tendon of biceps femoris.

What is the meaning of “Xiyanguan”
Xiyanguan:”Xi”,knee,refers to the point is located on the knee. “Yang” means Yang-Qi. “Guan”,gateway. The name of “Xiyanguan” means that the meridian water of Gallbladder Meridian flies downward from here. The substance of this point is the meridian water from GB 32(Zhongdu) point. After reaching this point, the Meridian water flies down to the lower part of knee,and a large amount of dampness-qi due to splashing out and is filled in inside and outside of this acupoint, the Yang-qi of Gallbladder Meridian below knee is blocked so that it cannot go up thereafter, hence the name.
